Comment:   This is an original 1963 Aurora Mummy. I bought it off a guy in his forties who said he built the model when he was thirteen. All the pieces were there and it had been painted with Testors Enamel Paints (Black, Red, Green, and Yellow) directly over the plastic. I heard that Lye would remove enamel paint, so I first soaked the model in Easy-Off Oven Cleaner (5% Lye Type, with VERY strong fumes). The paint did come off with some scrubbing using an old toothbrush; however, the glue also gave way and I was able to remove the stones, snake, and eventually the Mummy from the base (he broke at the ankle on one foot). I primered the model and began painting it with water-based acrylic paints. The hardest part about painting this model was trying to keep the colors distinct between the Stones, the Sand, the Mummy's Wrappings, and it's skin, so the parts of the model would not bend together and look the same (I re-did the stones 5 times). The Mummy himself was dry-brushed in multiple stages directly over a black primer. The base was washed with watered down color ink and dry brushed in multiple stages to bring out the highlights. I only detailed the Mummy's eyes and the name display on the base.
